Thursday 29th March

Useful information and requests:
  • The Summer Term starts on Tuesday 17th April.

Things to do...

  • Recap this weeks phonemes- 'ow' and 'oi'
  • Please read with your child. Encourage your child to first tell the story using the  pictures, identify high frequency words on each page and then  encourage your child to segment and blend words together. Once your child has decoded a sentence it is important to encourage them to go back and re-read the sentence to gain fluency and work on expression.
  • Practise doubling and halving with your child.
  • Encourage your child to look for numbers and print in the environment. Ask your child to write shopping lists for you. Count everything and play lots of games. Perhaps your child could sort mini Easter eggs by colour and count how many they have of each colour and how many altogether.
  • PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANY MORE JUNK FOR MODELLING - WE HAVE LOADS!

This week's activities have included making Easter cards, writing the inserts, going on a Easter egg number hunt and learning about the Easter story.

The children had to hunt for the Numicon numbers up to 20 and tick when they had found them all. Number 11 was very elusive - it had blown away and we had to retrieve it from behind the mud kitchen!

The children thought about Easter and used finger painting to make bunnies, chicks and eggs on their own Easter card. They added detail to their pictures using pens. They really enjoyed this activity and we hope that you enjoy receiving them!

We talked about why Christians celebrate Easter and shared the children's Bible version of the story. We talked about how different people have different beliefs and how it is important to respect each other. We celebrated Easter by sharing a hot cross bun.

In phonics this week the children have practised reading and writing words including the digraphs 'ow' and 'oi'. See if your child can have a go at segmenting and blending the following  words and encourage them to write them in a sentence.

ow- cow, clown, brown, town, owl, crown, down
oi - coin, point, soil, foil, join, coil

The children have had lots of fun in ChIL this week. We encourage them to extend and challenge their learning.

We hope that you all enjoyed the celebration assembly today and we wish you all a very Happy Easter! Have a lovely restful break.
