Friday 26th April

Useful information and requests:
  • On Thursday 23rd May it will be the Reception class Assembly. You are invited to come and watch and then come back to the class to look at the children's Learning Journals.
  • We would be very grateful if anyone has any men's white shirts we could have to use as lab coats in next weeks role play area. We are also in need of some rice please.
  • Things to do, to support your child...
  • Next week we will be focusing on weight, capacity and length in maths. You may wish to start discussing the language used in measures. Heavier, lighter, less, more, longer, shorter, longest, shortest, highest, smallest, full, empty, half full.
  • See if your child can tell you their group story. See the plans below.

We hope you all had a restful holiday. In guided writing this week the children wrote about their holiday news.

The children looked fabulous in their Fairy tale costumes. Thank you so much to all the parent helpers who made our workshop possible. It is such a fun day and the children are all so focused and motivated. In the morning the hall was set up as a castle with lots of work stations. The children got to visit the different areas and make lots of things.

Activities:

  •  Ink making, the children made the ink and then used feathers to write with the ink
  • The children could paint a picture of their favourite fairy tale character or setting or paint their name.
  • The children made soap adding lots of petals.
  • They made friendship bracelets by twisting wool.
  • They made bookmarks by hammering a pattern onto some leather.
  • The made a smelly posy to carry with them around the castle to ward off the bad smells.
  • They made potions and learnt magic spells
  • They iced a cake (ready to eat at the banquet)
  • They made their own plant pot and planted a magic bean. (They need to watch out if it gets too tall in case that giant comes down).

At the end of the morning the children went back to the classroom and Patrick told them the story 'Stone Soup'.

In the afternoon the entertainers for the Royal wedding banquet didn't turn up so the children had to split into groups to entertain the Wedding party. The children worked in different groups including two singing groups, a sugar plum fairy dancing group and a juggling group. There was also the Royal wedding party and their servitors. After rehearsals the children all came together for the Royal banquet.

On Friday the children were split into 4 groups and each group made up their own Fairy Tale. See if your child can tell you which group they were in and retell the story using the pictures. These stories will be learnt by the children next week and once they know them really well they will write their stories.

The children enjoyed playing outside in the sunshine.

The children were very excited to see the arrival of chick eggs in our classroom this morning. The eggs are in the incubator and we are waiting for them to hatch!!

Have a lovely weekend,
