Thursday 29th March

Useful information and requests:
  • The Summer Term starts on Tuesday 17th April.

Things to do...

  • Recap this weeks phonemes- 'ow' and 'oi'
  • Please read with your child. Encourage your child to first tell the story using the  pictures, identify high frequency words on each page and then  encourage your child to segment and blend words together. Once your child has decoded a sentence it is important to encourage them to go back and re-read the sentence to gain fluency and work on expression.
  • Practise doubling and halving with your child.
  • Encourage your child to look for numbers and print in the environment. Ask your child to write shopping lists for you. Count everything and play lots of games. Perhaps your child could sort mini Easter eggs by colour and count how many they have of each colour and how many altogether.
  • PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANY MORE JUNK FOR MODELLING - WE HAVE LOADS!

This week's activities have included making Easter cards, writing the inserts, going on a Easter egg number hunt and learning about the Easter story.

The children had to hunt for the Numicon numbers up to 20 and tick when they had found them all. Number 11 was very elusive - it had blown away and we had to retrieve it from behind the mud kitchen!

The children thought about Easter and used finger painting to make bunnies, chicks and eggs on their own Easter card. They added detail to their pictures using pens. They really enjoyed this activity and we hope that you enjoy receiving them!

We talked about why Christians celebrate Easter and shared the children's Bible version of the story. We talked about how different people have different beliefs and how it is important to respect each other. We celebrated Easter by sharing a hot cross bun.

In phonics this week the children have practised reading and writing words including the digraphs 'ow' and 'oi'. See if your child can have a go at segmenting and blending the following  words and encourage them to write them in a sentence.

ow- cow, clown, brown, town, owl, crown, down
oi - coin, point, soil, foil, join, coil

The children have had lots of fun in ChIL this week. We encourage them to extend and challenge their learning.

We hope that you all enjoyed the celebration assembly today and we wish you all a very Happy Easter! Have a lovely restful break.

  • Thursday 29th March Celebration Assembly at 9.15am and repeated again at 1.30pm (The Reception children stand up to perform one thing).
  • Thursday 29th March- Term ends at 2pm

Things to do...

  •  Recap this weeks phonemes- 'ur' (burn, curl)
  • Please read with your child. Encourage your child to first tell the story using the  pictures, identify high frequency words on each page and then  encourage your child to segment and blend words together. Once your child has decoded a sentence it is important to encourage them to go back and re-read the sentence to gain fluency and work on expression.
  • Practise doubling and halving with your child.
The children all enjoyed a dance workshop today. The children had a special assembly this morning and then each class had a workshop. The children had to imagine that they were in the woods and move around the 'river' the 'fallen tree' through the 'mud' and then freeze when the 'bear' came - they loved it! At the end of the day Thom performed for us all.

Although the children have enjoyed the chicks this week and have drawn pictures and written about them we were very sad when two of the chicks died during the night. We explained that sometimes these things happen when animals are weak. We talked about the fact that it was OK to feel sad.

In maths the children have been learning about halving. They used  pictures and cut them in half and had to understand that the two halves had to be exactly the same.

The children went on a Spring walk. They looked for signs of spring including buds and nests and talked about how the seasons differ. We asked the children how the trees change over the seasons and we looked out for birds and animals. The children completed a tick sheet of the things they spotted.

The children have been learning to colour mix in art this week. They talked about primary and secondary colours and experimented making colours. They used their colour mixing skills to paint flowers.

The children have had a chance to play with the Beebots. We had to give the Beebots instructions to move by pressing the correct buttons.

The children were then given time to explore the Beebots and programme it to move from one place to another.

On Thursday the children really enjoyed watching the Year 2 Assembly. They told us about World Changers like Nelson Mandela and Amelia Erkhart, and this has really inspired our children to become world changers too. When they went on their Spring walk they noticed that there was a lot of plastic bags, crisp bags, sweet and cake wrappers in our environment and they decided that it would be a good idea to improve their world by going on a rubbish hunt. Some children even made their own poster to encourage everyone to 'Save the World'

This is all the rubbish we collected today!

In Phonics this week we have explored the digraphs 'ur', 'ow' and 'oi'.
See if your child can have a go at segmenting and blending and writing the following words:
ur- burn, turn, fur, curl,

Have a restful weekend,
