    • Read with your child
    • Talk about the teen numbers with your child. Encourage your child to read numbers in the environment. Some children still need to learn to recognise their teen numbers.
It was great to catch up with you all at parents consultations this week. We hope you found it useful and had a chance to look at your child's work and learning journal. Please remember that our door is always open and do come and speak to us if you have any concerns.

The children are very excited about our chick eggs. Our first chick hatched on Wednesday and we  managed to catch it on film just before the children came in. They enjoyed watching the replay of it hatching. We are unsure whether our other eggs are going to hatch and we were getting a bit worried that our only chick was lonely so we have had a two chicks from the farmer to keep the first one company. We have started talking about spring and will be going on a spring walk next week.  The children understand that spring also brings new life and they have been learning about life cycles of a butterfly, frog and chicken. The children were great at using the correct vocabulary such as 'cocoon', 'tadpole' and 'frogspawn'. Please ask your child if they can tell you about the life cycle of these creatures.

The children have continued their work on teen numbers this week. They have made number lines from the numbers represented by numicon from 1 to 20 and represented by tens grids. They had  to identify and order the numbers. They also filled in missing numbers on a number line. Most of the children now understand that a teen number is made from ten and a single digit number. Some of the children still need to work on recognising the numerals 11-20.

The children enjoyed a visit to the school library this week. They learnt how to find books that they were interested in. Identifying the non-fiction and fiction sections of the library. They shared a book with a friend and brought a book back to class to as our 'Library book of the week'.

In phonics this week the children focused on reading and writing of the phoneme 'oo' (spoon)  'ar' and 'or'.

See if your child can use their robot arms or phoneme fingers to sound out these words and blend them back together.

'oo'- spoon, moon, balloon, zoom, broom, pool,
'ar' - car, farm, yard, park, dark, smart, cart,
'or'- storm, corn, horn, sort, sport, torch, porch

The children have had lots of fun in ChIL this week.

    Have a super weekend,
