  • Things to do...
  •      Recap this weeks phonemes- igh, oa .

    • Read with your child
    • Talk about Fair Trade products and why they are important and see if your child can spot the symbol on products when shopping.
    • Continue to practise subtraction with your child and sing songs  that involve subtraction -ten green bottles, 5 little ducks, Encourage your child to count back from  numbers up to 20. Can your child show you how they can record subtraction?
Thank you for coming to our Fair trade cafe. The children loved having you there. They really enjoyed making their chocolate krispie cakes to sell. They hopefully now understand the importance of fair trade and how to look out for fair trade products.

When making the krispie cakes the children learnt about changing states. They learnt that chocolate is solid when it is cold and can become a liquid when it is heated and revert back to a solid when it is cooled.

In Literacy this week the children have listened to the story of 'The Room on the Broom', and discussed the characters in the story. The children in Ducks have then each written a character description. For example 'The dragon is red and it can fly'.  The Robins' would have done this on Friday but will now do it next week.

In maths this week the children have revisited subtraction but this time they have recorded the subtraction they have done using either pictures or a number sentence.

In phonics the children have focused on writing for the tri-graph 'igh' and reading for the digraph 'oa'.

Ask your child to have a  go at reading and writing these words:

    'igh'- light, high, sight, tights,
'oa' -boat, coat, goat croak, toad

In handwriting over the last few weeks we have been concentrating on writing the long ladder letters.

In ChIL the children have enjoyed playing in the snow!

During ChIl  we have had a witches and wizards writing area in Robin's base where the children put on a hat to help them with their writing. They wrote magic potions and speech bubbles for the characters from 'Room on the Broom'. In Ducks base we had a super heroes writing area. Here the children put on super hero masks and cloaks and tiaras. They could choose Disney pictures and superhero pictures to write about or three pictures that they then linked together in a sentence. In the creative area they had the opportunity to make super hero masks, witches and wizard hats and wands. They could also make super hero vehicles.

Let's hope we don't have to worry about the weather too much next week!
Have a lovely weekend and stay warm!
