 Requests and reminders:

  • Please ensure that your child has a hat and comes to school with sun cream applied. They may also bring a named bottle of sun cream. Your child will need to be able to re apply it themselves.
  • Please ensure your child has a spare set of clothes in their bag.
  • Don't forget to send your child in to school in their PE kit on Thursday as well as Monday next week for Sports Day. If it is sunny please ensure they have a hat and sun cream too.
    Things to do...
  • This week the children are continuing phase 4 phonics. We are learning about clusters. Two sounds commonly found together such as 'br' and 'dr'. The children are practising reading longer words made up of consonant-consonant- vowel- consonant such as d-r-o-p. Encourage your child to sound and blend longer words. We have focused on 'fl', 'nd' and mp'' this week.
  • Recap the digraphs that your child finds tricky. There are lots of Power Points in the home learning that you can use. Also please keep practising the key words.
  • Please read lots of fairy tales at home and discuss how the same story may vary depending on the author. For example sometimes the wolf is killed by the woodchopper and sometimes it is not!

This week we have used 'The Gingerbread man' story to help the children with their learning.

The children started the week by listening to the story and discussing the characters, setting and story line.  We then made a story map which the children used to help them to retell the story.  We also used actions to help the children remember the different parts of the story.  Once the children knew the story really well we had a go at changing the characters and setting.

Here are the story boards they made. Ask your child to retell their class version to you.

Ducks

Robin

Later on in the week the children had a go at writing a speech bubble for the Gingerbread man and they thought about what he might be saying and what the fox might be saying at different parts of the story.

In maths, we have revisited the learning on height, weight and capacity.  They had lots of fun measuring things against Rapunzel's plait. They had to find things that were longer and shorter than her plait. They used the balancing scales to order the weight of three objects. They had lots of fun exploring capacity and using a range of language to describe how full a pot was. They also worked out how many small cups they needed to fill a larger pot.

During PE the children have been practising sports day.  On the day we will upload lots of pictures of the children taking part in the activities.  This week they practised jumping the hurdles, throwing a javelin and balancing a bean bag on their head. They had lots of fun and can't wait for Sports Day.

The children have had lots of fun challenging themselves in ChIL. They loved the archery sets. They enjoyed using the hammers and nails to make finger shields. They love word searches. Lots of the children made super clay gingerbread men.

We hope you have a lovely week and that the weather will improve.
