Friday 5th October

Useful information and requests:
  • Just a reminder that you have early days consultations next week. Ducks are on Monday morning and Thursday evening and Robins are on Wednesday morning and Thursday evening. The majority of you have made an appointment. Please speak to us or the office if you are yet to make an appointment and would like one.
  • Both classes have achieved their 10 apples. As their treat the Ducks have chosen a disco in their pyjamas, the Robins'  have chosen to watch a film in their pyjamas and bring a teddy. Please could you send in a pair of named pyjamas (if your child wishes to change) in a bag and Teddy bear for our treat next Thursday afternoon.
  • Next Friday afternoon The Ducks have a skipping workshop. The children will need to have bare feet for this activity, so if your child usually wears tights and has difficulty with them it may be best to wear socks! Robins' workshop will be the following week.
  • We have sent home the children's home School liaison books today. We would be very grateful if you could write your child's name on the front and either cover it in sticky back plastic or place it in a small plastic folder. Many thanks. Please keep these books in your child's book bag at all times. The teacher will check them for messages every Wednesday.
  • Please can you send in more junk (egg boxes, small and large boxes, plastic containers, yogurt pots, tubes
  • Things to do...
  • It is important that your child learns to be independent, please teach them to put on and take off their shoes, socks, coats and jumpers.
  • Read books to your child and talk about any rhyming words you come across. See if your child can continue rhyming strings.
  • We are continuing to ensure that the children can follow instructions at school. Please can you practise with your child at home by giving them 2 or 3 instructions at a time.

Thank you again to those of you who were able to attend the Macmillan coffee afternoon last week. We managed to raise £228.30 for this great cause.

We loved some of the 'awesome' words that the children found in their rhyming books this week. We listed all the super words we found. In Robins' the winner of the book voucher was for the word 'slithery' and in Ducks the winner was for the word 'sniggering'.We hope you had the chance to visit the Book Fair this week.

In PE the children are focusing on the theme 'Jungle Animals'. They have been moving like different animals and were passing a 'monkey nut' beanbag in pairs.

This week adult directed activity has focused on number three in maths. The children learnt to name and describe a triangle. They should know that it is a 2d shape and has 3 sides and 3 corners.

The children focused on the number 3 in 4 different activities:
1. The children used Numicon shapes 1, 2 and 3 to make three in different ways to fill the board.

2. The children took three triangles of different sizes and put them in size order from smallest to largest.

3. The children used different sized and coloured triangles and used these to make a pattern. They had to demonstrate their understanding of a repeating pattern with 2 or 3 elements.

😊

4. The children used the sorting tray and counted in groups of 3.

Current View

In phonics this week we continued to work on rhyming words and strings. The children have completed a range of activities and we are very impressed with their ability to rhyme.
We played 5 different games:
1. Silly nursery rhymes: The children sang a range of well known nursery rhymes such as 'Jack and Jill went up the Hill' and then as a group they made their own silly version of each song using rhyming words.
2. Rhyming pairs. Each child had an object which rhymed with an object in the teacher's box. When the teacher called out her rhyming word the child stood up if they had a rhyming word. We then made some silly sentences using the rhyming words e.g. I keep my clock in my sock.
3. Rhyming Trains- The children each have a picture from a set of rhyming string. A child was chosen for the front of each rhyming train and then they had to find other children to go on their train.
4.The children looked at three rhyming words on the board and had to say which was the odd one out.
5. Cross the river. The children had to jump over the river if they had a matching rhyming word to the one on the other side of the river. You can only cross my river if your picture rhymes with......

ChIL has been indoors and outdoors.

Have a lovely weekend.
