Friday 6th March

  • Requests and reminders:
  • Please can the children bring their Reading Challenge sheet in every Wednesday so that we can tally the number of books read each week.
  • We have started  'Show and Tell' on Wednesday afternoons. The children have done brilliantly so far. We were very pleased that some of them had clearly practised hard and knew exactly what they were talking about and had some super props to help them. Their talk needs to reflect their learning or tell us about any family traditions. For example about how they celebrated Diwali, about a Christening they have attended, it could be about Emergency Services' or  an extra curricula activity they are participating in.  They could bring photos and will need to practise at home so that they know what to say. Thank you in advance for your help.
Wednesday  11th March       ORANGE GROUP
Wednesday   18th March      BLUE GROUP
Wednesday   25th March      GREEN GROUP
  • Next Friday is Sport Relief. The children are invited to dress as sports people in exchange for a donation for Sport Relief.
  • Hopefully you have all made your appointments for Parent Consultations coming up soon. They are: Robins: morning of Monday 16th March. Ducks: morning of Wednesday 18th March. Robins and Ducks Thursday 19th March (Evening).

    Things to do...
  • This week the children have been taught and revised the digraphs 'sh''', 'th'  'ch, 'qu' and ck''. Please encourage them to identify these digraphs in books. Can they segment and blend simple words using these sounds?
  • Please remember to help your child learn their key words. It helps to stick them on post-its around the house to be read each time they walk past. You could also focus on a few words and play snap or pairs with them. The children's reading improves very quickly once they are able to recognise these words. In order for children to read Yellow books they need to be reading read with fluency which means recognising the key words.
  •  In maths this week the children have focusing measuring height and length, weight and repeating patterns. Please encourage your child to use comparative language. The Oak tree is taller than the apple tree. Sam is shorter than Maisy. Lucy is the shortest in our family.  Ask your child to compare objects. which is longer/shorter, taller, shorter, heavier/lighter. Can they order three or more objects by height, length or weight?
  • Encourage your child to continue repeating patters. apple. orange, apple, orange ... red, red, blue, red, red, blue.

It has been an extremely busy week. Thank you so much for attending our Fair trade Cafe on Monday morning. We thought it was very successful and the children loved having you there. In total we have managed to raise  £371.35 for Traidcraft exchange.  We are very grateful for your kind donations.

We are learning about different people who help us. On Monday the children had a fantastic visit from the RNLI. The children learnt about the different coloured flags found on a beach. The children had to spot the dangers in a sea/beach picture. They learnt that if they were in trouble in the sea to make a star shape so they float and don't panic! Don't wave madly.  You can call 112 from any country.

Thank you so much to our two fantastic parents who came in to tell us about their job as Doctors. The children found it extremely interesting.  We learnt about all the instruments they use- and how Doctors take our blood pressure, temperature and even test our urine. The children had a go using the stethoscopes on each other and we got to keep some real ones to use in our role play area. We talked about the importance of vaccinations and looking after ourselves by eating healthily, drinking water, having immunisations, taking exercise. At the end they talked about how easily germs could be spread and one child in each group put glitter on their hands and they all shook hands to watch the germs spreading. They then had to wash their hands very well which was a great life lesson!

In maths this week the children have been learning about weight, height, length and patterns.
The children used our measuring snakes and found objects around the classroom and worked out the longest and shortest object and ordered three objects. The children compared weights of different fruits using balancing scales. They measured pictures of animals using multilink cubes, first making estimates. The children continued fruit repeating patterns. They had pictures and had to complete the pattern by adding the correct picture.

Thursday was World Book Day and the children all looked fantastic. Thank you for making the effort with their costumes. They enjoyed sharing their favourite books with each other.
