  • We would also be very grateful for any bags of pasta for the small world trays and creative activities.
    Things to do...
  • This week the children have been taught the phoneme 'b' and 'f' and recapped all the sounds so far.
  • They are focusing on the story 'Ridiculous' and are learning to retell the story.
In maths this week the children have been learning about addition. They have practised part-part-whole. We rolled two dice and placed the numbers in each part. The children could choose whether to record  using dots, lines or numerals. They then totalled the parts and wrote this as the 'whole'. Some children used practical equipment to help them.

An adult read the story  'Ridiculous' to the class. It is about a tortoise who wants to go out in winter instead of hibernating. Together we made story maps and the children learnt the story. They have drawn  some fantastic pastel pictures of the characters. They looked carefully at the illustrations in the book and used their observational skills to replicate them. They learnt how to blend two pastels together to create another tone.

In guided writing this week the children have looked at a picture from an illustration and written words associated with it.  Some children wrote CVC words, others challenged themselves to write simple sentences or more complex words.
In phonics we started by recapping all the sounds. The children then learnt the phoneme 'b' and 'f'
b: bat, bin, back, bag, big.
f: fat, fin, frog, fan, flat.

The children have enjoyed the reading carousel this week. One group looked at a range of non-fiction books, one group read magazines, on completed alphabet puzzles, one group read their reading books and the final group were reading a range of fiction  books. One group then read with the teacher.

Have a lovely weekend.
