Useful information and requests:

  • Next week are the parent consultations. We hope that you have made your appointment and we look forward to seeing you on Monday morning (Robins), Wednesday morning (Ducks) or Thursday Evening (Ducks and Robins).
  • Thank you to everyone who bought cakes from the Macmillan sale last week. We made an amazing £362.92!
  • Please can you ensure that your child's Home School Book is in your child's book bag at all times. There were many missing last week.
  • Please look out for your child's Christmas card design which will be coming home on Monday. You are able to order cards and wrapping paper via the APFS website from Monday 14th October until Tuesday 22nd October. Once you have made a decision about whether to make an order and have used the code on the back of the design please could we have their design sent back to school as we would like to put them up in December as part of our Christmas Decorations. Thank you in advance.
  • Things to do...
  • Your children all now have a reading book in their book bag. Please remember to talk through the book with your child first. Look at the cover and see if your child can tell you what the book might be about from the picture. Tell them the title. Read the blurb on the back. Look through the book together, looking at the pictures, explaining what the book is about. Look at the words and point out any tricky words or talk about the repetition on each page. Then ask your child to read the book.
  • Talk to your child using sound talk and see if they can use their phoneme fingers to sound out the words and blend them together. E.g. Can you pass the h-a-t?

In maths this week the children have been learning about the number three. They were introduced to the '3' numicon piece and looked at the pattern of 3 dots on a dice. They learnt about triangles. Identifying them by counting the sides and corners. They also made repeating patterns using triangles. They collected 3 objects from around the classroom.
 3 lego leaves
 3 pencils, 3 cones
3 children each wearing three super hero cloaks

3 pieces of paper, 3 people, 3 leaves
3 coins

We have learnt about Super Potato this week. We read the story and talked about different super heroes and their super powers. We made speech bubbles for super heroes and we did potato printing and potato mashing.  The children drew and coloured super heroes and cut out Super Potato. They enjoyed wearing super hero capes as they did super writing!

We have started our Guided Writing this week. Three groups work independently and two groups work with an adult and the groups are rotated each day. This week one group worked threading buttons, one group threaded through a card picture, one group practised their cutting skills. With an adult one group wrote their name using the cursive letters while the other did handwriting pattern practise. They thought carefully about holding their pen/pencil correctly and sitting properly with the paper angled slightly.

In phonics the children have been listening carefully to sounds again  and identifying the source of the sound as well as sounding and blending words.

The children have had lots of fun in ChIL. They particularly enjoyed using their gross motor skills to brush the bubbles.

The Ducks loved their disco and did some super dancing and played musical statues and musical bumps.

Have a great weekend,
The Year R Team
