  • Please ensure that your child can read those 45 high frequency words over half term. They are key to reading Yellow level.
  • This week in phonics we have revised 'ai', 'ee', 'igh' and 'oa'.

Thank you for coming to the Reception Assembly today. We hope you enjoyed it. We felt the children did really well. It was also lovely for them to have the opportunity to share their Learning Journals with you and super that so many siblings could attend as the Junior School was closed.

We have had a busy week with lots of practising for our Assembly.  It has also been Eco Week this week, so we have been trying to think about how we can look after our environment and stop climate change! The children have made posters with ideas to help us save energy, water and stop pollution etc.

In maths this week the children have had a brief introduction to coins and the the range of  denominations that there are. Your child would benefit from handling coins at home. Ask them to find the total amount of a few coins - start with 1p and 2ps! When counting the 2s tap twice! They could also use coins to pay for something in a shop so that they understand why we have coins and that we are sometimes given change!

The children have also been revising 2d and 3d shapes. This rhyme might help your child with their 3d shapes:

Cube, cube what’s your clue - 6 square faces all over you
Cuboid, cuboid what’s your clue - You look like a tissue box achooo!
Cylinder, cylinder what’s your clue - You can stand up or roll about too
Sphere, sphere what’s your clue - You look like a ball that you kick with your shoe
Cone, cone what’s your clue - Don’t let your ice cream drip on you!

It has been lovely to have sunshine this week. Please remember to send your child into school with a sun had and sun cream already applied.

In PE the children have been learning to throw and catch a ball. They played team games including a relay race balancing a ball on a racket. We will be practising for Sports Day over the next couple of weeks.

Have a lovely restful half term holiday. Next term is a long one! How can the children already be about to leave us? We will miss them.
