Friday 25th May

Useful information and requests:

  • A special quiz is being held in aid of Jossie on Thursday 7th June. We hope to see many of you there.
  • We are still looking for natural materials to be used in the mud kitchen including fir cones, small sticks, shells and stones. We are also in need of more lentils, rice and pasta for our trays.
  • Please can we remind you to ensure that your child has a water bottle, a hat and please apply sun cream before school.
  • If you have any large square or rectangular scarves that you no longer need we would be very grateful if you could donate them to us for dressing up.
  • We are now collecting empty Heinz tomato ketchup/salad cream (400ml) bottles to use for paint.
  • Things to do...
  • We have revised the phase 3 sounds - ai, ee, igh, oa
  • Please read with your child. Encourage your child to first tell the story using the  pictures, identify high frequency words on each page and then  encourage your child to sound out and blend words together. Once your child has decoded a sentence it is important to encourage them to go back and re-read the sentence to gain fluency and work on expression.
  • Play maths games, rhyming games and read to your child!
Thank you for coming to the Reception class assembly. We really hope that you enjoyed it. They did a fantastic job- all remembering their lines and staying focused. They looked great in their costumes again!
The children really enjoyed having the opportunity to share their learning journals with you. Thank you for filling in the comments slip, these will be put into the children's learning journals.

This week the children spent some time  learning their lines and the songs for our assembly. They have also had phonics and have revised the phonemes: ai, ee, igh and oa.
ai:snail, sail, hail, rain, train
ee: teeth, three, bee, tree,
igh: light, fight, bright, right, night
oa: goat, coat,  boat, coach
In quick maths the children have been practising their addition and subtraction by counting on and back. e.g. 7 + 3= We put the largest number in our head and count on three more 7, 8, 9, 10. We demonstrated pointing at a counting stick but the children could also use their fingers to count on and back.  The children have also been doubling and halving numbers. On Friday we looked at solving mathematical problems such as:
  • Can you draw a shape with three sides?
  • My shape has 4 sides, all the sides are the same length, what shape is it?
  • Think of a number that is more than 5
  • Think of a number that is less than 12
  • Think of a number that is more than 3 but less than 5
  • Think of two numbers that make the total 10

In ChIL this week the children have been playing in the sunshine and the rain! The children have particularly enjoyed playing with the clay and making all sorts of insects.

We hope you have a lovely half term break.  Only half a term left in Reception- this year has flown by!
