Friday 5th January

Useful information and requests:

  • On Monday afternoon your child will be participating in a circus skills workshop.
  • Thank you to those of you who have brought in PE kits. Just to remind you that your child will need a PE kit in school from now on. At the moment they will not be going outside so they need a pair of shorts and a t-shirt.
  • The children are invited to dress as pirates for our Pirate workshop on Monday 22nd January. Please do not send your child in with a sword.
  • We would be very grateful for any donations of lentils, rice and pasta (it doesn't matter if these are out of date). They will be using in our trays outside for sieving and pouring.
  • As always we will gratefully accept junk modelling, including boxes, tubes and plastic tubs such as yoghurt pots.

Happy New Year! We hope you all had a lovely Christmas break.

The children have settled back into school life quickly. They were keen to share their photographs of Christmas and were able to talk about what they did and what presents they received. The children have all written a list of words or a sentence or sentences related to Christmas. While the children worked with the teacher the other children completed other literacy activities independently including reading magazines, making jigsaw sentences, playing rhyming games, using the marbles and letters.

The children have had two maths lessons this week. In one the children focused on making repeating patterns. First the teacher made patterns and the children had to say what comes next in the pattern. The children then had a go at making their own patterns. When making patterns the children used repeating colours for example: yellow, red, yellow, red... Some children used size and colour when making their pattern. For example: small yellow bear, big red bear, small yellow bear, big red bear. Some children used three colours or sizes in their patterns.

In the other Maths lesson the children were learning about measure and related language. They learnt about taller and shorter initially comparing 2 children and then ordering a few children in height order. The children had to explain who was taller and shorter than themselves. The children then found three objects from around the classroom and ordered them from shortest to tallest/longest. Please encourage your child to describe the length and height of things using this mathematical vocabulary.

The children have been working on their finger strong activities including forming their names correctly, practising cutting and colouring skills, threading and connecting straws.

The children enjoyed construction ChIL on Thursday afternoon.

 Have a super weekend,
The Year R team
