- We have a Science Day on Monday. Dressing up is optional. for example your child may like to wear a lab coat over their uniform (e.g. an adult's white shirt) or they may like to bring something into school that a scientist might use. Of course , the children can stay in school uniform if they prefer.
- Look out for the letter telling you about our exciting 'Fairytale Castle' workshop which is on Thursday 10th May. Please sign up to help if you are able to.
- We are still looking for natural materials to be used in the mud kitchen including fir cones, small sticks, shells and stones.
- Now that the weather is improving please can we remind you to ensure that your child has a water bottle, a hat and please apply sun cream before school.
- Please could you bring newspaper in for our activities next week.
Things to do...
- Recap this weeks phonemes- 'er' and 'ay'
- Please read with your child. Encourage your child to first tell the story using the pictures, identify high frequency words on each page and then encourage your child to sound out and blend words together. Once your child has decoded a sentence it is important to encourage them to go back and re-read the sentence to gain fluency and work on expression.
- Ask your child to count on and back from any number up to 20. Ask them to tell you what is 1 more and 1 less. Encourage your child to have a go at counting in 2s or 5s or 10s.
This week the children listened to the story of 'Rosie's walk'. The children then mapped out the story using pictures and retold the story. See if your child can tell you the story using the picture map below.
Each class then made up their own story similar to the story of
Rosie's Walk. The Robin's story was called 'Kevin's Flight' and the Duck's was called 'Nemo's Swim'. The children retold the story with their partner and as a whole class. After they had learnt the story they had a go at writing it.

In quick maths this week we have been using a counting stick to count on and back and in 2s, 5s and 10s and to find 1 more, 1 less.
The children all visited the school library this week and learnt about where the fiction and non-fiction books are kept and the importance of putting books back in the same place that we take them from.
We have talked a lot about Sustainability this week. We ended last week with an assembly from students at Sir John Lawes School. They explained how we need to look after the world by recycling. We were told about how we should use reusable bottles for our water and which bins and boxes can be used for different types of recycling. We talked about how we need to look after our world and what we could do to make a difference.
In focused ChIL the children have been planting cress seeds. They used the old yogurt pots, recycling them as plant pots. The children decorated them with their name and pictures of all the thins the seeds will need (water and sunshine).
The children have also planted sunflower seeds. They used their old milk cartons as their plant pots.
We recycled tin cans making them into a game of skittles. The children painted labels for the tins.
We made a poster about how to look after our classroom as the children need to learn to keep our classroom tidy and take care of school property.
In phonics this week we have been reading and writing words with the phoneme digraphs 'er' and 'ay'.
The children have been learning words such as:
er: summer, dinner, hammer, boxer, ladder, letter
ay: play, clay, pay, hay, spray, Sunday, tray
They could have a go at reading and writing these words and writing sentences using these words.
From next week we will be recapping all the Phase 3 phonemes that have been taught.
